I decided 2014 is going to be all about finishing the multitude of art projects I've started over the years. I've had this sketchbook for about two years now. Here is a quick update on progress.
Part of the brief for art for advent was "where do we find the Christ-child today". This made me think about Jesus as a baby, was he ever vulnerable? What was he like? And if he was born into poverty today would we notice?
This 6 layer stencil is of an orphan, a fatherless child spraypainted on rough reclaimed wood that cost nothing but time and effort to make. You can view it in the flesh at St Johns church in Peterborough or have a read up about it on the St Johns website. This is FAF so check the jump to see how you can take it home for free Im not a big fan of doing standard portraits so I've been looking out for interesting photos that I can stencil just to practice my cuts and spraying technique. I found this one and made it into a 7 layer stencil but rather than having a different colour or tone for each layer I decided to just use two cans and see if I could blend my way though 7 layers. Here are all the stencils... Here is the artwork...
This was a commission I was really happy to do because the original photo was really well taken and not the usual portrait style. The photo was taken on the London underground at the start of a journey that would see the sitter travel to Ethiopia with The Red Cross. I've decided I need to practice portraits a bit more so that when the commissions come along I'm ready for them. Here is the first one. This is a 4 layer stencil sparayed using just 2 cans and varying levels of blending.
Here is my contribution to I Got Wood 2. Multi layer stencil self portrait on a giant jigsaw piece. You can see more contributions to the project here.
This is a 6 layer stencil of Pink I've been meaning to finish for a few weeks now. This one was a commission but I can do further copies at £35. If you want one email me. Apologies for the crappy photo but hopefully you can see enough of the detail.
I'm doing cardboard portraits for a tenner. Guaranteed to not look much like you...slip ten notes and a photo of yourself my way to get your own.
Forgot to mention, this is for August only. Today has been a day of highs and lows...my car failed it's m.o.t. and is now going to set me back £300 but on the plus side I did get to put in a lot of hours at the studio. I started by adding the myPeterborough logo to my folding book but forgot to take photos so I'll post how that is coming on another day. What I did take a picture of is this 6 layer stencil portrait of Miriam... Finally I got to work on the 'Free Art Good Friday' pieces and finished 2 of them. The plan is on Friday I'll drop a load of free art around Peterborough and then leave clues to the whereabouts on my Facebook fan page (check out the feed on the right). All going well this should put a few smiles on a few faces and bring home what Easter is really all about. Photos will be posted here in the next day or so...
